Farm School

Meet the Farmer

My name is Sarah. My husband and 4 daughters run a farm in Mason, TN just outside if Memphis. Ten minutes from Arlington.

I have been wanting to be homesteader for a very long time, before I even knew what the word meant. There has always been something in me that is drawn to the old ways of doing things. How did we do things before man automated everything, before modern farming practices, before boxed food. I am a naturally curious person, my mom would say nosey. But I like to know how things work, how they are made, etc. This curiosity has brought me to where I am today.

We live on 15 acres outside of Memphis, TN. We grow and raise as much food as we can. We seek to use practices that honor the land and the animal and the human. We raise cows, goats, chickens, pigs, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, and have a 1/4 acre vegetable garden. What has taken us years to learn, we are now wanting to share that experience with others by opening up our homestead/farm to classes so others can learn as well.

Homeschool Classes:

This is a school year long class that will meet twice a month from 10 am – 1 pm from August thru May. This is a class for third graders and up. We will have 10 students max. We are taking registrations now for the 2025/2026 school year.

Students will learn how to grow food in our school garden. They will learn to cultivate soil, start plants from seed, care of the plants and harvest. They will learn animal husbandry skills. We have on our farm chickens, ducks, turkey, rabbits, goats, pigs and cows. They will learn how to preserve food, cook from the homestead, forage, and bush crafting.

There is only one class for the coming school year. It will be the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month August through May.

Classes will begin in August 2025 and will conclude with a farm to table meal put on by the students for their families in May 2026. There is a $40 registration fee per student for the year. The class is $95 per month per child. If you wish to add a sibling, the fee will be $85 per sibling. We understand life happens, if you cannot continue with classes please give us a one month notice. Payments are due the 1st of the month paid via Venmo.

There will be a private Facebook group for parents to join so you can be kept up to date with the latest happenings and the schedule of events. It will also be a place to share pictures of the class.

If you are interested, please email Sarah at theturnerfarmstead@gmail.com

If you are ready to register, you may register by going here .

Class is held rain or shine, because farms don’t stop for the weather.

Parents are free to join the learning at no extra cost the classes that are not for the high school and up class.

Kid Classes for Kindergarten and up:

These classes give kids and introduction to our farm. They will come away with knowing where food comes from and more knowledge about farm animals. We walk the whole farm and give kids plenty of time to visit with the animals and ask questions. Our 2025 classes are to be determined. Go to our shop to purchase tickets.

Adult Classes:

We will periodically have classes that are geared towards adults, so please follow us on Facebook and Instagram for information when those classes are scheduled. We also have dates for each class in our shop, check there to purchase your tickets.

We are no longer offering private classes at this time.
